Second Best
Some of us can only be losers. Mello, who is smarter than all of us but one, drives himself half mad trying to find himself that edge. I say, hey, why bother? Nothing you can do is going to topple little sleepyhead. Ease up a little.
As if. Even when he has fun, it’s intense fun. No relaxation for Mello - even in sleep he looks frantic.
I reckon all I can do is set a good example, except I know Mello, and he’s not one to let go. He’ll be like this his whole life; always chasing.
Always falling short.
Title: Her One Regret Fandom: Death Note Rating: PG Character: Hal Words: 100 A/N: Written for the 50drabbles challenge, table 2, prompt 47 - 'years'
Her One Regret
It’s something she can’t forget: being too late, the building in flames, oh, no, Mello.
She wishes she’d told him, don’t be stupid, don’t try to be a matyr. Like he’d listen. And who remembers him now? That bright boy; his burning ambition. She and Near; some old schoolmates. Mello who saved the world, to be erased from it.
All this time later, with the world returned to scum and greed, her job assured, but Hal can never feel quite sure they did the right thing.
But she has to be.
All these years later, he still breaks her heart.
Title: Light Years Away Fandom: Death Note Rating: G Character: Matt Words: 100 A/N: Written for the 50drabbles challenge, table 2, prompt 48 - 'space'
Light Years Away
Mello’s the one with the gravity, a red giant about to go nova. Me, I might shine, but we’re a binary system. When he goes, I go with him.
Still, space is big, and who says they’ll notice, where the people live so many light years away from me and him. Will they gaze up in wonder, or are we just another data-point in the computer in the computer of the universe?
Metaphors run tired. The fact is we’re going to die, both of us, and there’s no way to escape this gravity well, escape ourselves.
